For the Base
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk warm
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Topping
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the melted butter, egg, and yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Topping
  1. In a medium bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon.
  2. Pour the melted butter into a separate bowl.
Assemble the Monkey Bread
  1. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and tear off small pieces (about 1 inch each).
  2. Dip each piece in melted butter, then roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Layer the pieces in a greased bundt pan.
Bake
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Once all dough pieces are in the bundt pan, let it rise for another 20 minutes.
  3. Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown. Let cool for 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate.
